New guidance on references

Acas has recently published new guidance on references.  This deals with issues such as (a) does a reference have to be provided; (b) what can an employment reference include; and (c) whether employers can give a bad reference.  Employers must be very careful when providing references to ensure that they are not misleading or inaccurate.  Failure to do this could lead to an individual or a recipient of the reference issuing various legal claims against the previous employer.
