Since the abolition of Employment Tribunal fees, there has been a significant rise in Employment Tribunal claims. On 17 December 2017, the Ministry of Justice confirmed that the number of claims lodged by a single applicant for the period from July to September 2017 has increased by 64%, which is the highest it has been for four years.
These statistics reflect this firm’s experience during recent months. It appears that employees/former employees are keener than ever to issue Tribunal claims and fight for their employment rights in appropriate circumstances. It is therefore essential that employers ensure that they apply fair and reasonable employment procedures and practices to reduce the risk of possible claims.
