Corporate Social Responsibility
Passionate and Committed to our Corporate Social Responsibility
We are a law firm built on the foundations of real life, for real people and the businesses they run .
We are not just specialist employment and immigration lawyers in the City of London, we also play an active role in community life. Our social responsibility programme is reviewed each year and maintained and developed because it is a fundamental part of who we are as a firm and what we represent; a socially and ethically responsible business.
What Is Our Social Responsibility, And What Elements Does It Entail?
- Community
- People
- Environmental considerations
- Pro bono support
Community
Who we help and represent is important to us. Our team are encouraged to engage in community support local to them and projects both during office hours and in their spare time. Whether sponsoring a school fete, team charity initiatives like the London Legal Walk, taking part in charitable initiatives allows us to integrate into the very fibre of our community.
Our founder and senior partner Daniel Wise sits on the board of trustees at Theodora Trust, a global charity focused on health care for children for whom we are committed to raising money through our completed customer feedback survey contributions program. Daniel has also recently been appointed to the board of trustees for the Big House charity, a London based arts charity working closely with young people from under privileged backgrounds.
We partner with companies and trail blazers of family rights campaigns including Mother Pukka, Maternity in Action and Mumsnet by creating podcasts and giving our time to giving pro bono advice to their law clinics as well as providing training to their members free of charge as a part of their lunchtime learning programmes.
Involvement in community projects also provides us with a valuable source of personal learning and development as well as enabling us to deliver important professional advice and support within the community.
In 2026 we hope to work closely with The Comfort Foundation UK to provide fresh water to villages in Ghana as well as supplies and resources to orphanages and schools. There is currently a shortage of supplies of new-born items in the women’s hospital and we hope that with out fundraising initiatives we are able to provide the valuable support needed.
People
Without our dedicated team, we cannot be a socially, economically and environmentally conscious business. Our firm’s dedication and commitment to the causes that we support mean that we can take steps forward in our desire to make a difference.
This year we aim to take part in quarterly charity initiatives that we encourage all staff take part in. It makes OW a great place to work and strengthens relationships within the team.
Environmental Considerations
Our ongoing mandate is to move towards reducing our carbon footprint. We are aware that there is a huge responsibility owed by us all and our commitment to remote working ensures that commutes into central London daily are saved, along with reducing the carbon footprint of office space for our team on a permanent basis.
We remind recipients of email correspondence only to print if necessary and implementation of our information technology systems and software means that our comprehensive systems negate the need for paper and paper files.
Pro Bono
We know what we are good at – that’s employment and immigration law. We are honoured and committed to using our expertise in helping those who need it most. It is our belief that there should not be a bar to accessing legal advice due to cost. We partner with The University of Hertfordshire and the Hertfordshire Law Clinic as well as London School of Economics and their Law Clinic to supervise Law students as part of their course in delivering pro bono legal advice in employment Law and family law as well as offering time to the law school at King’s College, London every year as a part of their ex curricular classes for law students exploring more practical skills such as client facing techniques and negotiation training (wow we are busy!).
